Frequently Asked Questions

Zimbabwe

Visa Requirements

Most travellers require a visa to enter Zimbabwe, which can be obtained either online or on arrival, depending on your nationality. We recommend applying at least one week before departure to avoid delays at the airport.

Apply through the official eVisa portal:
www.evisa.gov.zw

Destination Details: Refer to your travel confirmation.
Reason for Travel: Tourist.

Fitness Levels

Your Zimbabwe itinerary may include walking safaris, gentle hikes, and time spent exploring natural areas such as Victoria Falls and Hwange National Park. These activities can involve uneven ground, steps, and warm temperatures, but they are accessible for most guests.

Our professional guides will support all fitness levels, ensuring the experience is enjoyable at your own pace. A moderate level of fitness is recommended, though no technical hiking experience is required.

Health & Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel and medical insurance is essential and remains the traveller’s responsibility.
Please ensure your cover includes emergency evacuation, medical care, and all relevant activities.

Malaria

Malaria is present in several regions of Zimbabwe. Whether or not to take malaria tablets is a personal choice. Some guests opt for them, while others rely on mosquito spray and standard precautions.

If you’re unsure, speak with your doctor and they can suggest the best option for you based on your itinerary.

Yellow Fever

Zimbabwe only requires a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate if you are arriving from, or transiting through, a Yellow Fever risk country.

If you are travelling directly from most of Europe or North America, the vaccine is not required.

For personalised advice, please consult your healthcare provider.

Cholera & Water Safety

Zimbabwe occasionally experiences cholera outbreaks, though it is uncommon among travellers staying in reputable lodges and camps. To stay safe, drink bottled or purified water only, avoid ice in local establishments, and wash or sanitise hands regularly.

All properties on our itinerary follow strict water-safety standards.

Food and Water-borne Illnesses

Typhoid, hepatitis A, and other common travel-related illnesses exist in parts of Zimbabwe. These are easily avoided through good hygiene, drinking safe water, and choosing well-established camps and lodges.

Your doctor may recommend routine travel vaccinations before your trip.

Food & Beverage

We aim to accommodate all dietary needs, however, certain specialised ingredients may be difficult to source in Zimbabwe. So a little flexibility is appreciated.

Please list all dietary preferences, allergies, and health considerations on your registration form so the chefs can prepare accordingly.

Some lodges include house wines and local spirits. Premium drinks will be charged separately.

Safety

Zimbabwe is known for its warm hospitality and welcoming communities. As with all destinations, certain areas are safer than others, and our travel route has been carefully planned with your wellbeing in mind.

Urban Awareness: In major towns and cities, petty crime such as pickpocketing or bag-snatching can occur. Keep your valuables secure, avoid displaying expensive jewellery or electronics, and stay aware of your surroundings.

Wildlife Safety: Zimbabwe’s national parks are home to incredible wildlife. Your guides will brief you on how to move safely around animals, whether on foot, in camp, or on game drives. Following instructions is the key to a safe and unforgettable experience.

Road and Travel Conditions: Road conditions can be unpredictable, especially in rural or remote areas. We only use trusted drivers and reputable operators to ensure your comfort and safety.

Weather

Zimbabwe’s climate is generally warm and dry for much of the year.

Dry Season (May–October): Cool mornings and evenings with warm, sunny days.

Green Season (November–April): Lush landscapes, occasional rains, and warmer temperatures.

Layers are recommended, especially for early game drives and evenings around camp.

Tipping

The recommended gratuity in Zimbabwe is US$20 per day, though this is optional.

Most guests choose to tip management, who distribute it fairly among the wider team, including the staff working behind the scenes. If a particular team member stands out, you’re welcome to tip them directly.

Safari guides are typically tipped separately, at US$30-40 per car per day or the equivalent in local currency.

SIM Cards

For local connectivity, Econet offers the widest coverage across Zimbabwe and is the network most travellers prefer.

eSIM services such as Montysim are also available if you’d like to stay connected without purchasing a physical SIM.
