Fitness Levels

Our hike through Mount Kenya National Park covers diverse terrain and reaches higher altitudes, which can be physically demanding at times. However, this is not a race and we will be accompanied by experienced park rangers who are there to support guests of varying fitness levels.

Whether you prefer a steady pace or need a little extra encouragement along the way, you’ll be well looked after. A moderate level of fitness and a sense of adventure are recommended, but no technical hiking experience is required.

Health and Travel Insurance

Health and travel Insurance is your responsibility, please make sure you have everything required before departure.

Maleria

Malaria medication is a personal choice. We have been in Kenya for 10 years without catching malaria. The areas we are traveling are not malaria areas, though it exists everywhere. If you do choose to take malaria medication, note that it has made people feel nauseous whilst traveling, so check the contraindications, there may be an option that is less invasive.

Yellow Fever

Travellers entering Kenya may be required to show proof of yellow fever vaccination, especially if they are arriving from, or have transited through a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. A valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is required for travellers aged 1 year and above coming from such countries. The certificate becomes valid 10 days after vaccination and is valid for life. While the vaccine is not mandatory for travellers arriving directly from non-endemic countries like most of Europe or North America, it is strongly recommended for those visiting certain regions within Kenya where yellow fever may be present. Please consult with with your health practitioner in relation to all medical choices.

FOOD & BEVERAGE

We do our best to meet your dietary needs, please be mindful that we are in Kenya and not all foods that are readily available in the west can be resourced here, so flexibility and a generosity of heart is requested.

Please let us know of any allergies and food preferences, health conditions on the registration form and the chefs will be informed before arrival.

Some lodges may include house spirits and wine and premium spirits will be at your own cost.

SAFETY

Kenya is generally a safe country, the people are lovely and very friendly. Like all cities and countries there are areas that are safer than others, and our travel route has been chosen accordingly.

Please do not bring valuables such as jewellery, we value you just the way you are.

WEATHER

Given the higher altitudes of Northern Kenya at approximately 7000 meters above sea level, early morning game drives, and evenings can be quite chilly. The Kenyan Coast is the land of forever sunshine with average temperatures between 26 - 32 degrees.

TIPPING

The national recommended gratuity is US$20 per guest per day whilst this is not compulsory.

We tend to give tips to the management and they divide it amongst the staff and as there are lots of people behind the scenes that make your stay just as special as those at the forefront. If you meet someone you appreciate personally, feel free to tip them a bit extra.

Your safari guide is usually tipped separately at 5000/- per car per day.

SIM CARDS

If you require a sim for your phone, we suggest you get Safaricom as they have the best coverage.

Their are also e-sim apps available such as Montysim.

Let the adventure begin, the time is drawing very near and we look forward to welcoming you to Kenya.
